The technical process:

By modifying the MX settings on your account, emails sent to your inbox are redirected (before they enter your inbox) to the filtering server. This method of Server Level Filtering keeps the spam from counting against your quotas.

The server filters spam from legitimate emails through database comparison, specific phrase (not trigger word) comparison, URL and Phone comparison, and other methods.

The remaining, legitimate, emails are delivered to your inbox and (if applicable) wireless devices.
